Overview

CloneCD is a well-developed CD replication program. Given that you have at least one recordable CD-ROM drive, it allows you to copy files from one CD to another.CloneCD is capable of copying any type of disc, from music to data CDs. Because the program writes in Raw mode, you'll have full control over the output. The result is real 1:1 copies of discs. The main feature of the program is that it can copy CDs regardless if they're copyrighted (see below). As long as it's used responsibly,CloneCD is useful for creating back-ups of important discs.

Unlike its more sophisticated counterparts, CloneCD is extremely easy to use. It's simplified toolbar interface allows you to copy discs with just a couple simple steps. By specifying the CD Reader and the CD Writer, you can begin a copying session almost immediately. While it's generally useful to have two drives, one CD writer is necessary. Before you start, you may optionally set recording speed, fast error skipping and bad sector scanning. More advanced users can take advantage of CloneCD's command line features.

It's very crucial to note that CloneCD does not work with all CD Writers. Basically it only supports those that can read subchannel, or hidden, data on a disc. In other words, it won't work with writers that cannot read disks that are copy-protected. This shareware version restricts you to the slowest recording speed, which I found reasonably fast.

Overall:
CloneCD is a powerful CD replicator software that will allow you to make PERFECT BACKUPS of most current protected CDs. This can be performed because it writes in Raw Mode, which allows it to have total control on the written data. So we are going to see what makes CloneCD so powerful towards all other usual CD-R software for now.

A lot of protection has been created in order to prevent professional piracy by mass replication. Nowadays, most famous protections essentially used are: SafeDisc (from c-dilla), SecuROM (from Sony), LaserLock, regarding PC world, and LibCrypt (from Sony) regarding Console world (essentially found on playstation CD for now). This makes the job more difficult when trying to make a safety backup of such CD.

You must have in mind that you have the right to make a safety backup as long as you own the original and as lots of people may have noticed : CD can be easily be scratched because of different causes (kids playing, temperature...)...) and consequently may not work correctly , so backup is the only way to make sure CD can be played forever.
